Career Matters Directorate of ARCON is responsible for the registration of qualified persons into the practice of advertising.

ARCON has 3 (three) registration procedures:

  1. Professional Diploma in Advertising:
  2. Enroll in the ARCON Professional Examinations Program and acquire the relevant knowledge and professional qualification to excel in advertising practice. Examinations are conducted in the revised 3part syllabus.

    Only candidates who possess a degree or Higher National Diploma in any discipline are eligible to enroll in the program. All candidates are to enroll initially in the part one and progress to parts two and three subsequently.

    Candidates whose Degree/HND is in Advertising, Mass Communications, Marketing or Graphics Arts will be exempted from courses they have passed in their Degree/HND programs on presentation of valid academic transcripts.

    Successful completion of the 3 Parts of the examinations qualifies a candidate for the ARCON Professional Diploma in Advertising, for registration as Associate Member of the Advertising Profession and to lawfully practice advertising in Nigeria.

  3. Executive Membership Registration (EMR):  
  4. The eligibility for the EMR is possession of a university degree or higher national diploma and evidence of a minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in marketing communications. 

    The EMR program involves a two-day intensive training course on marketing communications practice and an evaluation test conducted immediately after. Successful candidates will be required to apply in the regular procedure and be invited to an induction ceremony at any of the scheduled induction ceremonies during the year. 

  5. Direct Registration: 

The following qualifications are acceptable for direct registration

  1. ARCON Professional Diploma in Advertising 
  2. CIM or CAM Diploma in Advertising or Marketing
  3. HND or Degree in Advertising, Marketing, Mass Communication or Graphic Arts (Design) from ARCON accredited departments in tertiary institutions.
  4. A recognized Post Graduate degree in Advertising, Marketing, Mass Communication or Graphic Arts (Design) from ARCON accredited departments in tertiary institutions
  5. Any other qualification subsequently approved by the Council

Entrants into the profession are registered initially as Associate (or as student members if they are undergoing a relevant course of study). 
 
They may subsequently be upgraded to other higher categories after continuous practice for specified number of years and after they have met the criteria for upgrading to such higher categories.



ACCREDITATION OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

ARCON carries out accreditation of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria to assess the suitability of its department: mass communication, marketing, advertising and graphic arts for training of students ahead of advertising professional practice.
The Council’s accreditation exercise is intended to guide institutions in staffing, equipping and curriculum development of the relevant departments.
On graduation, students of accredited disciplines qualify for registration as associate members without any further verification of courses.

Benefits of Accreditation

The essence of accreditation of advertising program by ARCON is to produce well-qualified manpower for the advertising industry. Graduates of ARCON accredited disciplines enjoy the advantage of being considered for direct registration, whereas the transcript of their counterparts not accredited undergo screening before they can be registered. They may also have to sit for an examination before they can be registered.

Students of accredited institutions have an advantage of being registered as student members while undergoing their academic program. They qualify for upgrading upon graduation.

Professional Development

In furtherance of its mandate of manpower and skills development the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria conducts seminars, workshops, in-house trainings etc.

The seminars and workshops are organized in different centres in Nigeria.
